ABOUT PIERRE

Pierre Poilievre is a third-term M.P., who serves as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and to the Intergovernmental Affairs Minister. After defeating the incumbent Liberal Defense Minister in the 2004 election, Poilievre was re-elected with more votes than any other candidate in Ontario in both 2006 and 2008. He attributes these victories to exceptional staff and volunteers, and to the strong values he shares with the people he represents. These values include family, hard work, low taxes, law and order and respect for our soldiers.

As Parliamentary Secretary to Treasury Board, he redrafted Canada’s whistleblower protection laws, and helped Minister John Baird stick-handle the Federal Accountability Act through the House of Commons. He fought for a tax credit for kids’ sports – an idea that originated with a farming family from Osgoode, Ontario. Poilievre brought it to then-Opposition leader Stephen Harper who campaigned on the proposal and made it law.

A passionate advocate for helping at-risk youth build productive lives, the 29 year-old has fought to get kids off drugs. Ottawa Police Chief Vern White has congratulated him for securing $1 million for the city’s drug treatment initiative.

Poilievre works to get results for his community. He helped raise $40,000 to rebuild the burned-down Manotick legion and worked with the Nepean Museum to award every veteran in Nepean-Carleton a metallic “poppy plaque” honouring their service.

The Queensway-Carleton Hospital thanked him for helping it secure a $1 rent deal from its landlord, the National Capital Commission.

As the leading voice for the future Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge, the M.P. has landed one-third of the project’s needed investment. He secured the neighbouring Airport land required for the Limebank Road expansion. Construction is now well underway as a result.

Named one of Ottawa Life Magazine’s Top 50 People, the Barrhaven resident holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and has served on Parliamentary Committees for Official Languages, Government Operations, Public Accounts, and Ethics & Privacy.
